Minutes 06.04.15

As usual, the club met in the community room of the Yarborough Branch Library on Hancock

Drive. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by club president Gary F. In order to accommodate the presentation on metal detecting, we dispensed with the minutes, old business, and new business.

The presenters were club members Alan R. and Mitch L. who also are members of the local metal detecting group. They started with a video from Garrett Manufacturing, a leading manufacturer, headquartered in Garland, Texas. The show explained the basic use and operation of several models in several price ranges.

Following the video Alan and Mitch demonstrated their equipment, including both full-sized and hand-held “pinpointer” units. (Garrett is known to law enforcement and security as makers of metal detectors for clearing passengers at airports, and other kinds of work.)

Among the recovered items they passed around were a medal from a French international exposition or world’s fair held in 1889. They also had some US coins, a bullet case, a belt buckle, and a nail.

The metal detectors meet on the second Thursday of each month at the Woodlawn Baptist Church on South Manchaca.

In the drawings, Hal won the door prize, and Sara won her second “Three-Legged Buffalo” chit. The treasure hunt prize went to Kurt who presented a nice set of Lincoln Cents, each of them an error.

Next month’s treasure hunt will be for a set (at least 21st century) of Jefferson Nickels from circulation.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.
